Washington State Police reported a fatal car crash involving a semi truck on State Route 14. The driver of a vehicle was reported swerving before impact. A semi truck was hit head on by the vehicle coming in the opposite direction. Police say the driver of the car was killed upon impact. In addition, a fire started from the impact of the crash. Nearly 100 acres were burned. The driver of the semi truck is reportedly okay. State Route 14 was closed for several hours while crews worked to clear the crash and put out the fire. It is unknown whether the driver of the vehicle was under the influence.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported 37,461 fatal accidents in 2016 on U.S. roads. This is an increase of 5.6 percent since 2015.
