Under Washington law, if you are notified that your dog is a marauding dog and has killed a domestic animal, then you are required under State law to put your dog down within 48-hours after you have receiving notification that your dog killed the domestic animal. Failure to comply could result in you being found guilty of a misdemeanor.
Additionally, under state law, a dog without a metal identification tag found running at large could be put down by the sheriff or deputy sheriff. There may be additional local ordinances you are required to follow as a dog owner, you can contact your local animal control department for more information.
Furthermore, you should ensure you have identification tags on your dog, that way if they do get loose they can be returned home to you.
The Washington State law regarding marauding dogs is as follows:
RCW 16.08.030: Marauding dog—Duty of owner to kill.
It shall be the duty of any person owning or keeping any dog or dogs which shall be found killing any domestic animal to kill such dog or dogs within forty-eight hours after being notified of that fact, and any person failing or neglecting to comply with the provisions of this section shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and it shall be the duty of the sheriff or any deputy sheriff to kill any dog found running at large (after the first day of August of any year and before the first day of March in the following year) without a metal identification tag.
